DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – According to a 2022 yearly report from the Duluth Fire Department, there was a record number of calls for service.
It was also a record breaking year for the number of staff members that retired and new hires.
Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj says there were 22 new firefighters hired last year which leaves the department about where they need to be for staffing numbers.
There was a record 15,281 runs in 2022, most of them were medical in nature.
The total number of fires last year was 291, down from the 315 the year before.
Water rescues were down substantially with 18 in 2022 compared to 39 in 2021.
