UNDATED (KDAL) – Emergency personnel were dispatched to crashes just north of Duluth and in Cook over the weekend thanks to automated 911 calls from cell phones that were equipped with crash detection features.
The first incident took place at 7:19 p-m Saturday when a motorcycle crashed in the ditch off the Pequaywan Lake Road.
The driver was a 33 year old Duluth resident who was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with life threatening injuries.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department believes alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.
The second crash occurred at the intersection of Vermilion Drive and 2nd Street SE in Cook at 2:55 a-m Sunday.
A vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control while crossing railroad tracks, left the road and hit the crossing arm control before coming to rest on its roof.
Two people in the vehicle were taken to the Cook Hospital with what is believed to be minor injuries.
The 18 year old driver, from the Nett Lake area is being investigated for criminal vehicular operation and driving under the influence.
