DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Minnesota Power has filed a 2024 proposed rate increase of 12 percent with the Public Utilities Commission.
The resulting 89 million dollars in additional revenue would support the rising cost of producing and delivering electric service to its customers and continue their transition to new sources of renewable energy.
It would also ensure that the company would be able to hire and retain the necessary workforce.
The proposal would add about 11 dollars a month to the average residential electric bill.
As part of the regulatory process, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) will set an interim rate increase to begin in January until a decision is made on the final rate.
The company is requesting an 8.6 percent interim rate for all customers and if the final approved rate is lower, they would refund the difference.
