TWO HARBORS, MN (KDAL) – Split Rock Lighthouse will hold the annual event that commemorates the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in a Lake Superior storm on November 10th in 1975.
On Friday, the lighthouse, fog signal building and visitor center will be open throughout the day providing historic site and shipwreck information.
There will also be a screening of a film about the Fitzgerald and its final voyage that ended with the loss of 29 crew members.
At 4:15 p-m, the lighthouse will temporarily close while the names of the crew are read to the tolling of a ship’s bell.
Following the ceremony, the beacon will be lit and the tower will be open again for tours until closing at 6 p-m.
The event will also be live streamed on You Tube starting at 4:30.
