DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Shipments through the Port of Duluth-Superior has climbed 3.9 percent ahead of last year’s pace through the end of October.
A big boost in the total came from an 18 month high in grain shipments with over 141 thousand tons through the port last month.
Iron ore was also strong, exceeding last year’s pace by 15 percent.
The numbers were able to overcome an eight day St. Lawrence Seaway strike in October.
Deb DeLuca, executive director of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, expects a strong finish to the navigation season, if the weather cooperates, until the Soo Locks close on January 15th.
