ST. PAUL, MN (24/7 News Source) – Minnesota’s attorney general is confirming the stabbing of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin at a prison in Arizona.
A spokesperson in the attorney general’s office confirmed Saturday that Chauvin is expected to survive.
Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a statement that he was sad to hear that Chauvin was “the target of violence.” Ellison said that Chauvin was convicted and should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.
Chauvin was convicted as part of the investigation of the death of George Floyd and was sentenced to more than 20 years in federal prison for violating Floyd’s civil rights.
