DULUTH, MN (Northern News Now) – A Twin Cities billionaire’s crude comment has inspired a Duluth group to give back to the community by donating boxes of Cheerios.
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Kathy Cargill said she’s scraping her plans for Park Point.
As Northern News Now previously reported, Cargill, who is married to an heir of the Cargill business fortune, recently bought several pieces of real estate on Park Point, but she had kept her plans for the area under wraps despite questions from Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert.
In the Wall Street Journal article, Cargill blamed the mayor’s comments, media attention, and social media attacks as her reasons for pulling the plug on her plans that included building homes for relatives, a coffee shop, and a sports complex.
Cargill also said Reinert peed “in his Cheerios.”
With those words as their inspiration, an anonymous group of Duluthians are challenging residents to donate a box or more of Cheerios to round out Minnesota Food Share Month.
Their campaign is called the “Duluth Cheerio Challenge.”
You can donate at the Duluth Labor Temple on London Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Wednesday, March 27 through Friday, March 28.
You can also drop off items in the North East Area Labor Council office, located on the main floor of the building in office 99.
CHUM, a local food shelf, is also accepting monetary donations as they hope to collect 50,000 pounds of food and $100,000 throughout the month of March.
