ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN (Northern News Now) – After a solo camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area a canoeist from Duluth was found dead on Friday.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, other outdoorsmen in the BWCA called 911 to report a capsized and partly submerged canoe with a dead body near Lake Agnes.
Members of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Office Rescue Squad, and U.S. Forest Service responded and upon their arrival on the scene recovered the body of 62-year-old, Duluth resident, Mark Ham.
According to Ham’s family, he was on a solo camping trip in the BWCA.
A life jacket was located on the scene but was not being worn by the victim.
The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
