SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – Superior Mayor Jim Paine presented his “State of the City” address at the Douglas County Historical Society Thursday night.
The mayor highlighted some of the city’s accomplishments over the last year and thanked the City Council for its hard work. He says the city is now stronger than it’s ever been.
He also outlined some of the goals for the year ahead. They include connecting the first customers to the Connect Superior Broadband utility and fully launching the network by the spring of 2025.
Plans for a skate park rebuild will be finalized this fall after input from skaters of all ages.
A new waterfront park in the city’s west end will be opened and new green infrastructure elements will be added to every park and public works project.
Mayor Paine will also propose new laws regarding vaping and vape shops in the city saying that those products and dealers are threatening the health and lives of children.
The city will also begin the process of replacing lead pipes and designs for new fire halls in the East End and North End neighborhoods.
Mayor Paine also named Dr. Helmi Harrington, the founder and curator of the Harrington Arts Center, as the 2024 Citizen of the Year.
