DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Minnesota Power is trying out a new way to manage vegetation at its solar energy sites.
A flock of about a hundred sheep arrived at the Jean Duluth solar site on the Riley Road July 10th and will remain there for the next three weeks.
Having the sheep graze under and around the 3,770 solar panels will cost less than traditional mowing.
The site was seeded with a mix of native pollinator plants and the sheep grazing is expected to ease competition from any invasive plants as well.
The Jean Duluth Solar site is on over eight acres of land just north of the Lake Park Athletic Complex in Duluth.
