DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The St. Louis County Board on Tuesday voted to put a five month moratorium on new cannabis businesses in the county.
The moratorium will run through the end of December and will allow local governments time to determine how to regulate the new industry including zoning and enforcement implications.
The pause does not include existing businesses selling low potency hemp products.
The Minnesota legislature approved adult use cannabis and established a management office to develop the operation and regulatory systems that govern the industry.
It also allowed local governments to pass temporary moratoriums to protect the planning process and the health, safety and welfare of its citizens.
