DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Crews from the Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation will begin some field work on both sides of the Blatnik Bridge this month for the project that will eventually replace the structure.
Geo-technical pile load testing will be done at 6 locations in Duluth and Superior to help design an efficient foundation system for the new bridge.
Noise from the pile driving hammer can be expected during daytime hours.
A portion of the work zone is within the Rice’s Point boat launch parking lot and may affect parking there through October.
Work will also be done on Conner’s Point in Superior.
Beginning in September some single lane closures on Highway 53 near the ramp to North 3rd Street in Superior will be needed.
Actual construction of the new bridge is anticipated to begin in 2026.
