DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Although seasonal declines are expected in January, the International Lake Superior Board of Control says Lake Superior levels remain at near record highs for this time of year.
The lake went down by 1.6 inches in December but normally declines by 3 inches. Lake Superior levels are still 13 inches above average and 4 inches higher than last year.
As a result, there will continue to be an increased risk of shoreline erosion, lakeshore flooding and coastal damage especially during strong wind and high wave events.
